Biking Adventures

“Can you get your bike out of the kitchen and put it in the living room where it belongs?” Betsy to Dan summer 2011

In the fall of 2010, we wandered into DG Cycles in Epping and asked about some entry level trail bikes. Just something to get us on the local rail beds and maybe a few single tracks. That was enough to get us interested. Little did we know that those were just the gateway drug.

In the Spring of 2011 a road bike suddenly appeared in the basement. I wasn’t sure about this road thing, I liked my nice quiet trails. Then one day a few weeks later we drove out towards Hampton Beach and up Ocean Blvd. All I seemed to see were cyclist enjoying what was always one of my favorite walks along the ocean from Hampton to Rye. I was hooked.

As it turns out, this cycling thing is a bit of a cult and an addiction all rolled into one big lifestyle change. Before we knew it 25 mile goals became 50 mile goals which became 100 mile goals. Now here we are roughly 19 months later with lots of biking options. The number of bikes in the house is rapidly catching the number of computers 8-9. We might have an illness. The progress went something like mountain bikes—> road bike—>single speed—>cross bike—> ???
